Description
MAAT, the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, is located on Lisbon’s historic Belém waterfront along the Tagus River. This area, once a hub of Portugal’s Age of Discoveries, is rich in maritime heritage, reflected in the museum’s design. The building, designed by Amanda Levete Architects, features a striking curved roof resembling a Portuguese ship and a glazed ceramic tile façade inspired by fish scales, paying homage to Lisbon’s seafaring past.
MAAT stands beside the former Central Tejo power station, an iconic industrial site now transformed into a cultural district blending old and new. This juxtaposition highlights Lisbon’s evolution from an industrial port to a center for contemporary art and innovation.
This image is an abstraction created by photographing a part of the curved roof against the blue sky.
