Description
The Red Lake (Lacul Roșu) located in the Eastern Carpathian Mountains of Romania offers a unique blend of pastoral scenic beauty. The lake itself was formed by a natural disaster, when a massive landslide covered an entire village and blocked the course of a river, creating the lake we see today. Because so many people lost their lives in this disaster, the lake was named in their honor.
The surrounding area is rich with dense forests and rugged mountain terrain, offering plenty of hiking opportunities for anyone interested in exploring beyond the shoreline. Photographing the lake, especially during early morning or late afternoon, when thin layers of fog start to form above the water, can bring about unexpected opportunities. The Red Lake feels like an enchanting pocket of nature with a fascinating backstory, making it a rewarding destination for travelers who appreciate both outdoor activity and subtle natural beauty.
